Base Visits
Part of the ROTC is the base visits. For the most part they have been really fun. I have now been on 3 base visits. The first one was to Davis-Monthan and Luke AFB in Arizona. It was really interesting and helpful to me in learning more about the Air Force. The next one that the corps went on I couldn't go, I was bummed, but I did manage to make it to the next one which was at Peterson AFB in Colorado. That one was lots of fun too. We had a C-130 ride all lined up for the trip which promised to be pretty good, but the take off got scrubbed because the winds were too high. We still got a short taxi on the aircraft though. Just a few days ago we went to Nellis AFB and that was pretty cool even though we were only there for a night and a few hours. I thought about it and realized that this was one of the first Air Force Bases that I have ever been to. My dad took us there when I was about 17 and we got to see a F-117 that was on display there. When we got back there just the other day I was re-reminded that this the base that really made me think seriously about joining the Air Force. Anyway, while we were there we got to see the Thunderbird squadron and see the Thunderbird F-16s on the flight line, it was pretty cool. And of course today we got to ride in a pretty new C-17 out of March Field, and that was cool too.
